Close Encounters of the Interstellar Kind: Examining the Capture of Interstellar Objects in Near Earth Orbit

Diptajyoti Mukherjee, Amir Siraj, Hy Trac, Abraham Loeb. arxiv.org. August 7, 2023.

Mukherjee, Siraj, Trac and Loeb simulate capture and retention of interstellar objects near Earth, then estimate populations and survey detectability under assumed incoming velocities, abundance, sizes and lifetimes. The manuscript identifies no actual captured interstellar object.

Complete supplied fourteen-page manuscript; conditional capture model

Kepler-1708 b-i is likely undetectable with HST

Ben Cassese, David Kipping. arxiv.org. March 24, 2022.

A simulation estimates HST recovery if the proposed Kepler-1708 moon exists. Seven of75 trials meet all requirements; conditional10±3% detectability is separate from the probability a moon exists. Optimistic systematics and JWST forecasts remain assumptions, with no independent detection or UAP claim.

An Exomoon Survey of 70 Cool Giant Exoplanets and the New Candidate Kepler-1708 b-i

David Kipping, Steve Bryson, Chris Burke, Jessie Christiansen, Kevin Hardegree-Ullman, Billy Quarles, Brad Hansen, Judit Szulágyi, Alex Teachey. arxiv.org. January 12, 2022.

A survey of70 cool giant planets reports a tentative exomoon candidate. Two transits and dependent treatments of Kepler data leave ordinary noise, blend and other-planet alternatives. Statistical planet validation and moon tests are separate; this is astronomy background, with no life or UAP detection.

Full supplied v1 manuscript; original and model checks remain open

Erosion of Icy Interstellar Objects by Cosmic Rays and Implications for ‘Oumuamua

Vo Hong Minh Phan, Thiem Hoang, Abraham Loeb. arxiv.org. October 28, 2021.

Phan, Hoang and Loeb model erosion and modification of icy interstellar objects under assumed cosmic-ray, material and travel conditions. Prior observations and fits support theoretical predictions rather than new detections or demonstrated composition.

Complete supplied seven-page manuscript; conditional erosion model

The Mass Budget Necessary to Explain ‘Oumuamua as a Nitrogen Iceberg

Amir Siraj, Abraham Loeb. arxiv.org. October 15, 2021.

Siraj and Loeb assess whether nitrogen-ice fragments could account for the earlier Oumuamua detection. Their conclusion depends on population and mass-budget assumptions; no new data are generated or analyzed.

Complete supplied three-page manuscript; conditional mass-budget model

Interstellar Objects Outnumber Solar System Objects in the Oort Cloud

Amir Siraj, Abraham Loeb. arxiv.org. July 22, 2021.

Siraj and Loeb infer a potentially large interstellar population from prior observations and population assumptions. The paper introduces no new data; selection, size distributions and model sensitivity limit its abundance estimates.

Complete supplied four-page manuscript; conditional abundance model

Destruction of molecular hydrogen ice and Implications for 1I/2017 U1 (`Oumuamua)

Thiem Hoang, Abraham Loeb. arxiv.org. August 12, 2020.

Hoang and Loeb model destruction and formation of pure hydrogen ice under assumed radiation, material and cloud conditions. They challenge one proposed explanation of Oumuamua while retaining environmental exceptions; no hydrogen object is observed and no artificial origin is established.

Complete supplied eight-page manuscript; conditional hydrogen-ice model

Fast radio bursts: the observational case for a Galactic origin

Dan Maoz, Abraham Loeb, Yossi Shvartzvald, Monika Sitek, Michael Engel, Flavien Kiefer, Marcin Kiraga, Amir Levi, Tsevi Mazeh, Michał Pawlak, R. Michael Rich, Lev Tal-Or, Lukasz Wyrzykowski. arxiv.org. September 8, 2015.

Maoz, Loeb and colleagues compare optical variability with historical radio-burst fields and propose stellar counterparts. Their association calculations depend on selection and assumptions; simultaneous counterpart evidence and raw-data replication are missing.

Complete supplied nine-page manuscript; counterpart and version gaps

The Hunt for Exomoons with Kepler (HEK): II. Analysis of Seven Viable Satellite-Hosting Planet Candidates

David M. Kipping, Joel Hartman, Lars A. Buchhave, Allan R. Schmitt, Gáspár Á. Bakos, David Nesvorný. arxiv.org. January 9, 2013.

The authors find no compelling exomoon evidence among seven selected Kepler candidates. Archival transit analysis and author-reported2012 stellar spectra support conditional mass limits; physical and predictive checks reject candidate fits. Noise, starspots and model assumptions limit inference. This provides research-method context, with no independent moon or UAP confirmation.

Detection Technique for Artificially-Illuminated Objects in the Outer Solar System and Beyond

Abraham Loeb, Edwin L. Turner. arxiv.org. March 13, 2012.

Loeb and Turner propose tracking brightness changes with distance to help distinguish intrinsic illumination from reflected sunlight. The model requires assumptions about luminosity, geometry, spectrum and albedo. They retain conventional variability from phase, surfaces, outgassing, rotation and binary effects, plus cloud and geometry limitations for exoplanets. Historical telescope forecasts and inconclusive null results limit the proposal. The paper reports no artificial-light detection or replicated experiment.

Will the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope Detect Extra-Solar Planetesimals Entering the Solar System?

Amaya Moro-Martín, Edwin L. Turner, Abraham Loeb. arxiv.org. September 14, 2009.

Moro-Martín, Turner and Loeb model ordinary interstellar planetesimals using uncertain stellar populations, ejection, size distributions and albedo. Their historical 2009 forecast for inactive objects gives a conditional lifetime expectation of order 0.0001–0.01, described as about a 0.01%–1% chance of one detection. A larger narrow-size scenario is explicitly unsupported by cited constraints. Figures and tables are theoretical scenarios. Survey selection, activity, disruption and survival limit the forecast. No new detection, artificiality or experimental replication is established.

Eavesdropping on Radio Broadcasts from Galactic Civilizations with Upcoming Observatories for Redshifted 21cm Radiation

Abraham Loeb, Matias Zaldarriaga. arxiv.org. November 19, 2006.

Loeb and Zaldarriaga forecast searches for accidental radio leakage with then-proposed astronomical observatories. Detectability depends on bandwidth, observing time, beam direction, duty cycle and interference. The figure and table share historical Earth-emission assumptions. Proposed orbital and habitability inferences were not performed measurements. A hypothetical relay-station private communication is attributed but unavailable. The paper reports no extraterrestrial detection; named funding is distinguished by recipient.
