The Mass Budget Necessary to Explain ‘Oumuamua as a Nitrogen Iceberg
Siraj and Loeb assess whether nitrogen-ice fragments could account for the earlier Oumuamua detection. Their conclusion depends on population and mass-budget assumptions; no new data are generated or analyzed.
Read the paper at arxiv.orgWhat we checked
A specialist read all three supplied text pages and their native layouts: 11,731 Unicode characters, two figures, two numbered equations and 22 references. Root reviewed the complete analytical packet and pins, without direct manuscript reading. Version 4 is dated 15 October 2021; native preprint and file dates say 18 October.
Complete supplied three-page manuscript; conditional mass-budget model
How we check sources
Not checked yet
- No new data are generated or analyzed. Single-detection selection, adopted mass and shape, population fractions, erosion and fragment distributions constrain the conditional nitrogen-ice critique. Rejecting that model does not establish artificial origin or current consensus. Native equation and probability-sign inconsistencies, and differing confidence wording, remain unresolved; no silent repair or replication.
- Earlier observations and cited models are dependencies, not newly reviewed originals. Journal and earlier versions, raw data, code, survey selection, fine glyphs and historical identity remain unreviewed. Partial Breakthrough Prize Foundation support does not identify an individual recipient, award, amount or date; academic comments do not establish a government approach.
