Erosion of Icy Interstellar Objects by Cosmic Rays and Implications for ‘Oumuamua

Phan, Hoang and Loeb model erosion and modification of icy interstellar objects under assumed cosmic-ray, material and travel conditions. Prior observations and fits support theoretical predictions rather than new detections or demonstrated composition.

What we checked

A specialist read all seven supplied text pages and whole native layouts: 27,803 Unicode characters, three figures, 12 numbered equations and 48 references. Root reviewed the complete analytical packet and separately viewed native page five; that overlapping cross-check adds no unique-page credit. Version 2 is dated 28 October 2021; native draft and file dates say 1 November.

Complete supplied seven-page manuscript; conditional erosion model

How we check sources

Not checked yet

  • Prior cosmic-ray fits, observations and adopted material, geometry, gas and travel assumptions underpin the model. Predictions are not new detections, composition measurements or validated artificial-origin conclusions. Half-kilometer and ten-kilometer wording, distance limits and equation references conflict within this version and with the earlier nitrogen-budget paper; no silent repair or replication.
  • Original measurements, simulation data, code, earlier and journal versions, review history and physical fidelity remain unreviewed. Hoang acknowledges Korea-government-funded NRF award 2019R1A2C1087045; Loeb acknowledges partial Breakthrough Prize Foundation support without an award identifier. Academic seminar discussion and comments do not establish secret tasking or custody.
