Natural and Artificial Spectral Edges in Exoplanets

Manasvi Lingam, Abraham Loeb. arxiv.org. May 25, 2017.

Lingam and Loeb propose spectral edges from hypothetical extensive photovoltaic surfaces as possible technosignatures. Contrast and power estimates depend on assumed coverage, reflectivity and geometry. Vegetation, minerals, clouds and ordinary heat transport remain alternatives. The figures combine cited reflectance curves and a schematic orbital scenario. The paper reports no detected extraterrestrial arrays. Historical instrument forecasts, manuscript comments and work-level Starshot support are qualified separately.

Fast Radio Bursts from Extragalactic Light Sails

Manasvi Lingam, Abraham Loeb. arxiv.org. February 27, 2017.

Lingam and Loeb consider whether some fast radio bursts could be artificial propulsion beams. The paper presents conditional models and possible tests, explicitly treating the artificial explanation as more speculative than astrophysical alternatives.

Fast radio bursts: the observational case for a Galactic origin

Dan Maoz, Abraham Loeb, Yossi Shvartzvald, Monika Sitek, Michael Engel, Flavien Kiefer, Marcin Kiraga, Amir Levi, Tsevi Mazeh, Michał Pawlak, R. Michael Rich, Lev Tal-Or, Lukasz Wyrzykowski. arxiv.org. September 8, 2015.

Maoz, Loeb and colleagues compare optical variability with historical radio-burst fields and propose stellar counterparts. Their association calculations depend on selection and assumptions; simultaneous counterpart evidence and raw-data replication are missing.

SETI via Leakage from Light Sails in Exoplanetary Systems

James Guillochon, Abraham Loeb. arxiv.org. September 3, 2015.

Guillochon and Loeb model possible leakage from hypothetical light-sail propulsion systems. Simulated observing windows depend on assumed inhabited systems and operating choices; the paper supplies no detection or deployed apparatus.

Detecting industrial pollution in the atmospheres of earth-like exoplanets

Henry W. Lin, Gonzalo Gonzalez Abad, Abraham Loeb. arxiv.org. July 21, 2014.

Lin, Gonzalez Abad and Loeb model whether hypothetical industrial pollutants could be detected in an exoplanet atmosphere. Their exposure forecasts are conditional and supply no detected pollution or civilization.

Supplied preprint text and native layouts; conditional model

Detection Technique for Artificially-Illuminated Objects in the Outer Solar System and Beyond

Abraham Loeb, Edwin L. Turner. arxiv.org. March 13, 2012.

Loeb and Turner propose tracking brightness changes with distance to help distinguish intrinsic illumination from reflected sunlight. The model requires assumptions about luminosity, geometry, spectrum and albedo. They retain conventional variability from phase, surfaces, outgassing, rotation and binary effects, plus cloud and geometry limitations for exoplanets. Historical telescope forecasts and inconclusive null results limit the proposal. The paper reports no artificial-light detection or replicated experiment.

Will the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope Detect Extra-Solar Planetesimals Entering the Solar System?

Amaya Moro-Martín, Edwin L. Turner, Abraham Loeb. arxiv.org. September 14, 2009.

Moro-Martín, Turner and Loeb model ordinary interstellar planetesimals using uncertain stellar populations, ejection, size distributions and albedo. Their historical 2009 forecast for inactive objects gives a conditional lifetime expectation of order 0.0001–0.01, described as about a 0.01%–1% chance of one detection. A larger narrow-size scenario is explicitly unsupported by cited constraints. Figures and tables are theoretical scenarios. Survey selection, activity, disruption and survival limit the forecast. No new detection, artificiality or experimental replication is established.

Eavesdropping on Radio Broadcasts from Galactic Civilizations with Upcoming Observatories for Redshifted 21cm Radiation

Abraham Loeb, Matias Zaldarriaga. arxiv.org. November 19, 2006.

Loeb and Zaldarriaga forecast searches for accidental radio leakage with then-proposed astronomical observatories. Detectability depends on bandwidth, observing time, beam direction, duty cycle and interference. The figure and table share historical Earth-emission assumptions. Proposed orbital and habitability inferences were not performed measurements. A hypothetical relay-station private communication is attributed but unavailable. The paper reports no extraterrestrial detection; named funding is distinguished by recipient.
