Meteor storm evidence against the recent formation of lunar crater Giordano Bruno

Withers tests a proposed 1178 lunar-impact date through a conditional ejecta and meteor-storm model, historical record absence and other dating arguments. The paper questions that date; its model and narrative analysis do not establish what the reported observers saw.

What we checked

Root actually read all five author-host PDF pages, zero-based 0–4, printed 525–529, including the abstract, body, bibliography, three figures and two equations. Figures 1 and 3 reproduce Apollo 16 frame 3008; Figure 2 presents a conditional meteor-rate model. All supplied layouts were viewed. The model assumes about 10 million tonnes, or 10^13 grams, of ejecta and uncertain fragment size and velocity. Historical absence arguments and alternative age estimates were reviewed without reproducing the model or acquiring its underlying data. Journal issue April 2001 is distinct from the later digital publication date. This completes the received paper rendition, not cited-original authentication.

How we check sources

Not checked yet

  • Gervase’s chronicle, Hartung’s quoted translation, original ephemeris calculations, historical meteor records, raw model code and data, original Apollo imagery and physical samples were not acquired. Author-host receipt does not authenticate the physical journal master.
  • June 18 versus June 19, Latin wording, visibility and narrative reliability remain unresolved. The 2002 reply reports a later translation discussion and qualifies the earlier article’s stated lack of such evidence. These dependent accounts are not independent observers.
  • The provided Wonders ebook text says 100 million tons of ejecta; this paper models 10 million tonnes. The mismatch is retained without conversion or repair. The cited news releases and original chronicle remain absent.
  • Academic acknowledgments, affiliations and the editor’s role establish no government programme, UAP tasking, access or custody. Crater-age arguments are not measurements or sample analyses performed by this project.
