Unidentified flying objects in classical antiquity

Stothers compares ancient reported sky phenomena and possible natural explanations. Retrospective accounts and shared written sources require caution; descriptions alone do not authenticate extraterrestrial visitation. The acknowledgment reports a Hynek conversation, library assistance and editorial suggestions. NASA hosting and author affiliation do not establish agency endorsement or government UAP tasking.

What we checked

Root previously read all 528 supplied text labels, including 34 notes and the bibliography, and viewed native pages 1 and 12. A specialist now viewed the other 12 whole native pages. Combined review covers all 14 supplied layouts, printed pages 79–92; the earlier text reading is preserved without duplicate credit. Root reviewed the complete specialist report, evidence and exact retained-file hashes. This completes the supplied paper rendition, with 35,697 text payload codepoints. It does not authenticate the ancient accounts or complete cited-original review.

How we check sources

Not checked yet

  • Ancient originals, translations, corroborating records, cited modern studies and physical data remain unreviewed. Later writers can share earlier accounts. Reported crowds and retrospective eyewitness descriptions are not independent verified witnesses. Natural and literary explanations remain possible.
  • The Hynek conversation is dated only as many years earlier relative to 2007. Its initiator, exact date, channel and original record remain unknown. Library assistance, referee suggestions and NASA hosting do not establish agency endorsement, government UAP tasking, classified access or custody.
  • Viewing all supplied layouts closes the earlier 12-page viewing gap. Fine-glyph fidelity and original source versions are not fully authenticated. The terminal ship illustration is uncaptioned; its creator, date and relation to any event are unknown. Wittmann and other cited originals remain separate gaps.
