Observable Signatures of the Ejection Speed of Interstellar Objects from their Birth Systems

Amir Siraj, Abraham Loeb. arxiv.org. October 5, 2020.

Siraj and Loeb forecast interstellar-object velocity and direction distributions from conventional stellar ejection. Their estimates distinguish 12-object velocity and 180-object angular tests of two ejection models from a separate 12-object anisotropy test. Density, size, sampling and detection assumptions remain uncertain. White-dwarf, outer-cloud and interstellar-medium alternatives are retained. Discovery forecasts and an artifact conjecture are not observations. Manuscript comments and work-level grant support do not establish government access.

Detectability of Thermal Emission from Sub-Relativistic Objects

Thiem Hoang, Abraham Loeb. arxiv.org. July 9, 2020.

Hoang and Loeb model thermal emission from hypothetical fast objects heated by gas collisions and radiation. Natural objects can share the same heating signature. Calculated curves and dated telescope sensitivities are conditional forecasts, not detections or measured abundance. Rapid motion reduces integration time and sensitivity unless tracking is achieved. Native equation, figure-count and size-threshold differences remain unresolved. Funding is attributed at work level without a named recipient or Starshot earmark.

Identifying Interstellar Objects Trapped in the Solar System through Their Orbital Parameters

Amir Siraj, Abraham Loeb. arxiv.org. February 4, 2019.

Siraj and Loeb model captured interstellar minor-body orbits using inherited density, population and size assumptions. Eight catalogue objects are possible candidates, not confirmed interstellar origins or extraterrestrial artifacts. Native Oort-cloud bodies are an explicit confound. Model convergence and forecasts do not supply independent observations. Native table, selection and population-normalization qualifications remain unresolved; detection bias and original calculation gaps are preserved. Manuscript assistance and work-level funding do not establish government tasking or custody.

Turning up the heat on `Oumuamua

John C. Forbes, Abraham Loeb. arxiv.org. January 2, 2019.

Forbes and Loeb forecast near-Sun interstellar-body encounters and propose spectroscopy. Encounter rates and candidate probabilities depend on uncertain density, orientation, population and detection assumptions. Listed probabilities do not confirm individual origins. Ordinary cometary explanations, bound-orbit caveats and an ISON non-detection remain explicit. Parameter and catalogue-filter discrepancies are unresolved. Forbes’s fellowship is distinct from work-level grant support; neither establishes government access.
