Neurological, Cognitive, and Psychological Findings Among Survivors of Ebola Virus Disease From the 1995 Ebola Outbreak in Kikwit, Democratic Republic of Congo: A Cross-sectional Study
A selected 2017 cross-sectional study compared 20 Ebola survivors with 187 contacts from the Kikwit outbreak community. Cognitive and psychological score associations do not establish persistent causal brain injury, clinical diagnoses or 22 years of longitudinal follow-up. Small samples, instrument limitations and inconsistent source values remain explicit. Nolan is a coauthor; no UAP programme is discussed.

All 33,222 decoded article characters, including 31 references, were read in five complete returns. Two main tables contain 164 native cells. The complete supplied DOCX text and three supporting tables with 126 physical cells were read; a truncated verbose display was excluded and replaced by complete compact returns preserving blanks and merged headers. Root matched the exact character union, native authors and table counts. Original main PDF and original Word page layouts were not received or viewed. Electronic publication is August 10, 2018; the print issue is April 15, 2019.
Supplied article and supporting text read; original layouts unavailable
How we check sources
Not checked yet
- Twenty selected survivors include fourteen listed and six self-reported participants. Contacts and propensity subgroups are dependent observations. Selection, recall, confounding, absent historical baselines and limited population-specific instrument validation constrain inference.
- MMSE and GADS associations do not establish DSM diagnoses or causal neurological persistence. Negative symptom, examination and stigma results remain retained alongside reported differences.
- Source discrepancies include contact percentages, married and healthcare-worker denominators, differing MMSE confidence limits and alpha reliability language. Native values remain unrepaired; no statistical reproduction was performed.
- Nolan’s specific contribution is unstated; the paper declares no conflicts. Original article PDF, Word layouts, glyph checks, raw data, protocol and code remain unreviewed. Government funding does not establish a UAP approach or programme.
