A Reply to: Large Exomoons unlikely around Kepler-1625 b and Kepler-1708 b

David Kipping, Alex Teachey, Daniel A. Yahalomi, Ben Cassese, Billy Quarles, Steve Bryson, Brad Hansen, Judit Szulágyi, Chris Burke, Kevin Hardegree-Ullman. arxiv.org. January 18, 2024.

Kipping and nine coauthors dispute reductions and inference in the Kepler1625/1708 exomoon controversy using shared archival products. They retain that both candidates may not be real and need further observations; noise, detrending, injection geometry, limb-darkening and conditional false-positive assumptions limit inference. No independent moon or UAP detection follows.

The Hunt for Exomoons with Kepler (HEK): II. Analysis of Seven Viable Satellite-Hosting Planet Candidates

David M. Kipping, Joel Hartman, Lars A. Buchhave, Allan R. Schmitt, Gáspár Á. Bakos, David Nesvorný. arxiv.org. January 9, 2013.

The authors find no compelling exomoon evidence among seven selected Kepler candidates. Archival transit analysis and author-reported2012 stellar spectra support conditional mass limits; physical and predictive checks reject candidate fits. Noise, starspots and model assumptions limit inference. This provides research-method context, with no independent moon or UAP confirmation.
