"Down to Earth" Limits on Unidentified Aerial Phenomena in Ukraine (Comment on arXiv:2208.11215)

Loeb argues that assumed high atmospheric speeds should produce strong frictional luminosity, and that a shorter inferred range could permit ordinary explanations. His conditional critique supplies no raw-observation refit or identified object. The paper acknowledges Galileo Project support and a Breakthrough Prize Foundation grant; it does not document the unnamed official visit separately reported in his book.

What we checked

The accepted arXiv2210.01972v1 scientific text and five-page native review remain preserved. One separate ordinary GET of the exact offered Harvard author-host PDF returned a byte-distinct five-page rendition. A specialist viewed all five whole layouts; page1 adds a distinct metadata layout, while pages2–5 are exact preserved PNG-byte duplicates. PDFium strings differ only in the first two metadata lines; remaining scientific strings match mechanically. Root reviewed the complete analytical packet and private current/dated-copy pins. This adds one distinct metadata layout and no new scientific narrative.

Supplied paper complete; author-host rendition separately collated

How we check sources

Not checked yet

  • Native author-host page1 shows submit/4526621 and DraftOctober5,2022, whereas the accepted arXivv1 shows the arXiv identifier and October6 draft. Transport LastModifiedOctober5 and byte/string/pixel comparisons do not establish an authoritative revision timeline, historical publication state or authenticity. Previously unknown accepted-rendition folios remain unknown.
  • The author-host PDF contains no official request, visitor, agency, channel or event-date record. Its silence neither authenticates nor refutes the separately attributed book, essay and media request accounts; exact event identity remains unknown. Galileo/Breakthrough funding acknowledgments do not verify government tasking, programme access or material custody.
  • The independently reviewed Brown2002 calibration paper is a separate model source with its own assumptions. Conditional optical efficiency and ordinary-object interpretation do not validate an instantaneous Ukrainian-object identification. Raw detector data, calibration, complete original observational records, code and independent model replication remain unreceived or unperformed.
  • Five actual author-host views include four duplicate rendered scientific pages; only one new distinct metadata layout is credited. Mechanical string and PNG equality is not new scientific corroboration or original-record authentication. Cited works, measurements, linked council criticism and Ukrainian authors’ response retain their separate review gaps.
  • Optical efficiency near10% cites Brown2002, now separately read in full. Brown estimates bolide-integrated, energy/population-dependent efficiency under6000K assumptions:6–15% fitted,5–20% extreme range. Transfer to instantaneous UAP heating is unvalidated. Area/density/speed/geometry and conditional distance-to-the-fifth scaling supply no calibrated raw-data fit or identified object. Density at10km elevation is not measured range.
  • Few-megawatt and10cm/roughly10kW examples use different assumed geometries and cannot be conflated. A luminous object near1170km is described as likely a satellite without orbit matching here. No raw images, timestamps, uncertainty fit, code execution or replication were acquired. Hypothetical probes/rocket expressions are background possibilities, not observations or established present consensus.
  • The paper acknowledges Galileo Project at Harvard and a Breakthrough Prize Foundation grant. Awards, IDs, allocations and grantee details remain unreviewed; support is not government tasking/access/custody. Brown2002 was separately read; the other cited original bodies remain unread in this commentary lane. Winn2023 in this2022 draft remains unrepaired.
  • The paper does not mention the unnamed visiting official, scientific-opinion request or few-hours writing sequence reported in Loeb’s later book. Its silence and submission timestamp neither confirm nor refute that account. Official identity/agency/exact visit day, visitor/email originals and the Ukrainian reply remain unknown or unreceived. It critiques S1287 shared observations; a second Loeb-authored source supplies no independent contact witness.
