Comment on "Discovery and Preliminary Characterization of a Third Interstellar Object: 3I/ATLAS" [arXiv:2507.02757]
Loeb models a population mass budget for 3I/ATLAS and offers ordinary cometary-core or rarer-population alternatives. Technological design is conditional speculation; albedo, size, selection and reservoir assumptions remain explicit, with no artificial-origin detection or independent model validation.
Read the paper at arxiv.orgWhat we checked
A specialist read all three page texts and viewed all three whole native layouts:5,490 page codepoints, three equations, one footnote and five reference entries. Root reviewed the complete analytical packet and verified files. The v2 margin and official revision say July9,2025; the native draft heading says July30 and the HTTP modification says August6. These conflicting layers remain unresolved.
Complete supplied three-page v2 manuscript; model and date gaps retained
How we check sources
Not checked yet
- The mass-budget model depends on albedo, core-versus-coma brightness, radius cubed, assumed detection rate and orbit distribution, and adopted ejection reservoir. Ordinary small-core comet and rarer large-object alternatives remain explicit. Prose density3×10^-4 and equation normalization5×10^-4 are preserved separately. Technological design is conditional speculation, with no artificial-origin or intent detection. Original data, survey selection, uncertainty analysis, code and independently validated calculations are missing.
- Work-level support names the Galileo Project and Harvard’s Black Hole Initiative; BHI funding acronyms are exactly JFT and GBMF, without correction or expansion. Awards, amounts, dates, named PI and legal grant recipient remain unspecified. No government approach, tasking or custody follows. Cited works, the Minor Planet Center record, v1 and final journal/reviewer bodies remain unreviewed; historical Rubin/JWST expectations are not current observations.
