Probing Extrasolar Planetary Systems with Interstellar Meteors
Siraj and Loeb combine reported detections and non-detection limits to propose meteor trajectory, spectroscopy and sample tests. The administrator flags substantial text overlap with their earlier meteor paper; IM1 and Oumuamua are reused. The allowed slope range is not a demonstrated confidence interval. Camera coverage, parent-star association, isotopes and sample recovery are forecasts, rather than achieved results. Ordinary alternatives and source discrepancies remain.
Read the paper at arxiv.orgWhat we checked
A specialist actually read all five supplied arXiv:1906.03270v1 text pages, 12,709 normalized characters, five native layouts, both figures, two footnotes, acknowledgment and 41 bibliography entries. Root reviewed the whole final report/evidence and inventory; root primary-body reading is false. Supplied character count is not overlap-adjusted unique narrative. Official submission is 7 June 2019, while the native draft says 19 April 2022; cause and historical byte identity remain unknown. The journal rendition was not received.
Received preprint text and native layouts; overlap and original gaps
How we check sources
Not checked yet
- The synthesis mixes reported measurements and upper/lower limits. Controversial Arecibo velocity uncertainties, incompatible fits, shared AMOR interpretations and speed thresholds remain. The slope midpoint and half-width do not establish statistical confidence; original observations, fit data, covariance, code and selection validation were not supplied.
- The camera-network and spectroscopy calculations are conditional models. Figure 2’s caption mentions 10 cm and 1 m thresholds, while only the 10 cm line is visible. Historical Galileo/Ulysses dust observations are separate from the Galileo Project. No global network deployment, parent-star match, isotope result or recovered sample is reported.
- Peter Veres is thanked for manuscript comments; work-level partial Breakthrough support lacks individual award and date. No government approach appears. Printed Hawkes, Taylor, Meisel, Seligman and Siraj reference discrepancies remain unrepaired. Cited originals, historical versions, journal/reviewer material, funding records, code and current instrument/census validation remain gaps.
